Casey Goh, Founder of Lifeforce Harmonic LLP and Build2Talk Program And Autism Dad
I am blessed with a daughter (11 years old as at 2021) who has autism. We live in Singapore. It is a blessing because it gives me first-hand experience to understand her learning challenges and motivates me to find ways to help her learn better and develop her skills. As a parent of a special needs child, we are their best educator, therapist, and friend.
The Build2Talk program was created when I realized that she could not play LEGO.
Playing LEGO may seem like a natural thing for most children. Most kids when given a LEGO set can start building stuffs from their imagination. However, most children on the autism spectrum lack play skills, and they may not understand what to do with these weird looking plastic pieces.
The original LEGO manual was of little help because most printed manuals that came with a box of LEGO, shows you just 6 or 7 models. So, what are you going to build after that? I was determined not to let my box of bricks sits in the storeroom because LEGO bricks are great learning tools. This got me started to make my own models and along the way, I found that taking photos of the step-by-step building process (one part, one step and one picture at a time) was the best way to teach her to start building. Today, building LEGO models has become her favorite daily routine.
I am no stranger to the creative field. I was a content publisher for more than 20 years in the book industry. I have written, designed and published books both in print and in digital formats. If I am not creating digital content, I am playing LEGO or creating music using music technology which is my other passion.
I am skilled in playing the digital piano, synthesizer and various digital instruments. I am also competent in using music apps such as Synthesia, Audacity and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Ableton Live and Bandlab used in digital music creation and performance. I have also created an innovative online course The 5Rs Fast Piano Learning System. This unique system teaches anyone to play popular songs on the piano without learning to read musical notes by leveraging on music technology.
Together with my team members, our mission is to create digital learning resources that will support children with special needs to acquire skills and overcome their learning disabilities.
